WILBOR is a consortium of more than 100 Iowa libraries which provides downloadable audiobook and eBook services to the patrons of participating libraries. This service is managed by four regional service areas (Northwest, Central, South East, and East Central) and financed by local libraries. This service allows YOU to have access to audiobooks on your schedule - day or night.   WILBOR launched an audiobook collection on June1, 2008 and an eBook collection on December 1, 2010.

Your library card is the “key” to downloading audiobooks and eBooks from any computer that is connected to the Internet at any hour of the day.  From a website, you can browse or search for a title you’d like to listen to, log in with your library card number, and download the title to your computer.  You can then listen / read to the book on your computer, or transfer to a compatible device.

“This is a great way to make the library’s resources available to our users 24/7/365,” said Library Director Misty Gray.  “You don’t have to come to the library building to check out a book, and you don’t have to return it.  The book automatically ‘returns’ to the collection for someone else to borrow.”

WILBOR's collection has fiction and nonfiction titles, as well as books for children and teens, bestsellers, classics, history, humor, business and self-help.  You'll find them all in WILBOR!  Audiobooks will check out for 1 week and the file will "expire" on your computer after 1 week, but when the books are transferred to an MP3 player you can take your time listening to them.  Some titles can even be burned to CDs for your own personal use.  Titles from the eBook collection check out for 2 weeks, but don’t take your time with these.  The titles will no longer be available on your computer or device after the loan period expires.

Downloaded audiobooks will be in Windows Media Audio (.wma) and MP3 formats, compatible with most MP3 players.  Unfortunately, not all audiobooks available on WILBOR are compatible with iPods, but the selection is growing all the time!  Downloaded eBooks will be in EPUB and PDF formats.  For a list of compatible devices, click here.
