Election Year Lunch Time Film Series: "The Candidate" Sep 19, 2016 from 11:00 AM to 01:00 PM
Stop in for our showing of "The Candidate" starring Robert Redford and Peter Boyle. This 1972 film is ranked #4 on Time Magazine's "15 Best Political Films of All Time" list. A satirical comedy-drama, "The Candidate" also won an Oscar for Best Screen Writing. We will begin playing the movie at 11:00 AM. A few light snacks will be served and you are welcome to bring a sack lunch. Stop in and relax for whatever amount of time your schedule allows.

This month's club pick is a young adult novel by Chris Crutcher. When 18-year-old Ben Wolf is diagnosed with a rare blood disease and given less than a year to live, he decides against treatment, and goes about living life to the fullest, never telling anyone close to him about his diagnosis. As Ben faces his own mortality, he sees life and all those around them in an entirely new light, while at the same time processing his own rapidly approaching end.

Iowa author, Margaret Smolik, presents a historical program centered around her book "Like A Haystack." This book tells the story of Ms. Smolik's and her family's experiences, first as refugees in Europe during WWII, and later in the U.S. adjusting to a new life. If you are interested in history you won't want to miss this first person account of how ordinary civilians were affected by the most devastating war of the 20th century.

November in the West Country. Evening is closing in as murder detective Jack Caffery arrives to interview the victim of a car-jacking. He's dealt with routine car-thefts before, but this one is different. This car was taken by force. And on the back seat was a passenger. An eleven-year-old girl. Who is still missing. Before long the jacker starts to communicate with the police: 'It's started,' he tells them. 'And it ain't going to stop just sudden, is it?' And Caffery knows that he's going to do it again. Soon the jacker will choose another car with another child on the back seat. Caffery's a good and instinctive cop; the best in the business, some say. But this time he knows something's badly wrong. Because the jacker seems to be ahead of the police - every step of the way...

The Nature Tots with BV County Naturalist Katie program is open for 2 –4 year olds. Children must be accompanied by an adult. It is held on the second Wednesday of the month at the Storm Lake Library at 10:30 AM. Each month is a different nature themed topic and will include: storytime, a snack, and an activity.

Registration Deadline for Beginner-Intermediate Spanish Class Sep 19, 2016 from 12:00 AM to 12:00 PM
This Beginner-Intermediate Spanish class will meet Mondays from 4:30-6:00, September 26 to October 31st. All students must be pre-registered by Sept. 19. This class is for adults who have taken some Spanish in high school or through CommUNITY Education, and would like to refresh their language skills as well as continue to learn. Emphasis will be on writing, speaking, and comprehension. The class is free; however, the book "Living Language" is the necessary course text. This is available for purchase from the instructor or through Barnes and Noble or Amazon.
