CommUnity Book Club--The Painted Drum
The Painted Drum by Louise Erdrich, tells the story of Faye Travers, a woman who discovers a forgotten cache of valuable Native American artifacts, all part of an estate she has been asked to appraise. Most of the items are unsurprising, save one: a rare drum ornamented with symbols Faye doesn't recognize. Then--without touching the instrument--Faye hears it sound. So begins an illuminating journey into the past and the future, following the passage of the drum and the lives it has been a part of. The Chicago Tribune says Louise Erdrich "writes with a warrior's heart and a poet's voice." Contact the library to obtain a copy of The Painted Drum and join in the discussion.
