CommUnity Book Club--Regeneration
Regeneration, by Pat Barker, is a historical novel set in 1917 at a British hospital for "shell-shocked" WWI soldiers. The book was inspired by the true story of a decorated officer who, instead of being court-martialed for writing a declaration condemning the war, was sent to the hospital for unnecessary treatment. Regeneration was a nominee for the prestigious Booker Prize, and was also described by the New York Times Book Review as one of the four best novels of the year in 1991.
